Reds lose Opener
The Klotz Piggly Wiggly Reds had a heartbreaking opening day at the WBLL Complex last Saturday. After taking a 1-0 lead on Connor Bechler's RBI single in the top of the first inning, Reds pitcher Luke Albrecht was helped out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom frame on a nice catch by centerfielder Tyler Kaphingst to retire the side. As Albrecht went on to shut-out the Mariners through four innings, the Reds bats went cold until the top of the fifth when they loaded the bases. The teams efforts were then thwarted as Peter Nowicki hit a hard grounder to short that was played by Trenton Rehman for the force-out at second to end the inning. Still clinging to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth, Albrecht began to have control problems and was relieved by Bechler. The Mariners managed to plate seven runs in the inning to win by an eventual score of 7-1. The Reds look to get back on track on Tuesday night against the Devil Rays at 5:45PM. The expected starting pitcher for the Reds is Nicholas Albrecht.
